Once again, God has used my devotional time to bring me just what my soul needs. Perhaps this reminder of Hope will comfort others as well.

Surrounded by Hope

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful (Hebrews 10:23).

Scripture: Hebrews 10:19-25

Song: "The Solid Rock"

Sometimes when we are in the pit of despair, we can only keep something simple in our minds. For me that was a single word: hope. That word was a lifeline for me after Liz died. I had a tough time concentrating, and retaining things was nearly impossible. But loving friends and family surrounded me . . . as I held fast to hope. It seemed that everywhere I looked the word would turn up. It was the one thing that actually registered in my brain, despite my shock and grief.

Apparently, many people were clinging to that same beautiful word. Folks started to bring me things that displayed it. I received rings, cards, pens, and books-with hope. A friend from Taiwan even sent me a necklace and earrings, with the word hope written in Chinese. As you can see, I was surrounded by hope! The few Scriptures I was able to remember seemed to contain the same message. Then I realized that my hope was built on Christ. Without Jesus, I would never have survived that difficult time in my life.

Father God, help me always to build my trust and confidence in Jesus Christ, to lean on Him and trust in His promises. He is my life, my salvation, and all my hope for the future. In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, I pray. Amen.
