Today I was encoraged by the fellowship of Scouting at# Jamboree.

As more Scouts and Scouters stopped at our booth, I met a Scout from North Canton, Ohio whose Aunt and Uncle are officers in the Eastern Territory moving to Canada. A Scouter stopped by who soldiers at a North Carolina Corps and a Women's Auxiliary member from Oklahoma also stopped by. The Scouting world and the Army world are both seemingly so small that you meet folks no matter where you go. As I chatted with folks and saw future leaders of our country pass I was struck with the following thought - What tremendous opportunity we have in using Scouts as a tool in our Army tool belt of evangelism. Immediately following that I recalled Commissioner Gaither's charge to me last year when I was appointed National Scouting Liaison - "Boy Scouts needs the Army and the Army needs Scouting. We have underutilized this resource and we need to use it to our advantage." I paraphrased a bit, but I know that I got the message right. Scouts isn't for everyone, but I pray that we sieze the opportunity to reach boys with the Gospel through Scouting.
